Built by Hand, But Not Mine
The photo of the dog on the wall was taken by me. Behind it, on that blue door with “Rex” written in blue letters, is a startup where I used to work as a software engineer.
This is what happens when you are an engineer at an early-stage startup. From writing code to washing dishes, everyone does everything. That is part of the fun.
A company literally built with your own hands - but not yours. It belongs to the founder.
Two years later, while wandering around behind my apartment, I saw that my old company had opened a new branch in my area. Such a strange feeling. It felt so familiar. So close. But not mine.
