Chapter 21 / 51 · 1 min

Jessica

“Really, Jessica? That’s what you think? You know perfectly well that our love isn’t physical at all. So why would you say something like that?”

Jessica looked at me through the mirror.

“It’s fine. Body or no body, you love me because you have no other option. Nobody would date you. Living together doesn’t mean you have to love each other. So if you don’t love me, there’s no need for the fake talk.”

This time I didn’t look at the mirror. I turned my neck and looked directly at my second head, at Jessica.

I don’t always enjoy talking through a mirror, but since the two of us share a single body, with two heads set close together, direct communication isn’t very comfortable.

I said, “Look, Jessica. Nine years ago, when those cosmic creatures fused our two bodies into one for their experiment, that wasn’t my fault. When I saw two heads on my own body and wanted to kill myself right then and there, it was you who stopped me. But if you keep making my experience of being alive this miserable, I’ll have no choice but to have second thoughts.”

Jessica stared at me silently through the mirror for a while.
